Insbesondere wird hierdurch die oftmals starre, protokoll- und portbasierte Funktionsweise einer Firewall um eine applikationsorientierte Komponente erweitert. Theoretisch l\u00e4sst sich mit Application Control ein Firewall-Regelwerk mit nur wenigen portbasierten Regeln, daf\u00fcr aber deutlich intensiverer Nutzung der Einstellm\u00f6glichkeiten von Application Control schreiben.<br \/>\nDie verwendete Engine und die Signaturen stammen von Trend Micro. Die Technologie arbeitet im ISO\/OSI-Schichtenmodell auf der Netzwerkschicht.
